Design For Sports Social
With the San Jose Sharks, I was able to create fairly unique, one-off designs purely for the use on social media. These were often created on the fly; that is, we came up with the idea and executed on it within an hour or two (sometimes even mid-game).
Instagram AR Filters
While with Meredith Corporation/Gray Television, I pitched the idea to create custom Instagram and Facebook AR filters to promote the morning show. After learning that we didn’t have the budget to pay our external agency to do it, I took the initiative to learn how to make them and ultimately created three filters - and adding the “create AR filters” skill to my arsenal in the process.
Design For Local News Social
While working with the Local Media Group at Meredith Corporation, one of the many things I did was to create unique event and holiday social assets for the six markets we covered, to take that project off the plates of the local social media managers. I also provided engagement-driving assets, such as questions inviting people to comment or Instagram poll templates, following the platforms’ social media best practices at the time.
Phone Wallpapers
While with the San Jose Sharks, I established the weekly practice of “Wallpaper Wednesday,” creating 2-4 phone wallpapers each week, utilizing design and photography to highlight players to align with marketing strategy.
Marketing Campaign Conceptualizing
While with the San Jose Sharks in the Digital department, I was asked to help the Creative Services department come up with a new marketing look ahead of the 2019-20 season. Given the concept “Teal Together,” a font, and the edict that paper needs to be used, here are two concepts that I presented.
CUSTOM EMOJIS
As part of the annual “Social Media Night” with the San Jose Sharks, I took the initiative to design custom emojis for all the players on the roster, which were used in other graphic elements, on the scoreboard, as physical “big head” cutouts fans could take photos with, and in video content. These emojis were all based off of Apple iOS 9 emoji styles.
Specialty Print Design
In my year with the Sacramento River Cats, I designed hundreds of items, but there were a few projects that stood out - particularly, the ones that involved print media. Here are four projects that I remember in particular.
It should be noted that the two jersey designs were worn by the team during games, while the Media Guide cover and pocket schedule box were part of my marketing rebranding project.
